Play Quake 3 Arena on Android (Droid, Nexus One, maybe more)

Want to impress your friends by whipping out your phone and have a fully working copy of Quake 3 Arena (with real online play)? Well it’s actually not that hard, but it’s only really been tested on Droid / Nexus One. If you’re wanting to test it on your Andoird device, then go for it. Just make sure you post your results in the comments.

How to Install:

  • Download the kwaak3.apk (link) This requires Android 1.6
  • Next you’ll need to create two directories. First in the root of your SD card called “quake3″ and then a folder inside “quake3″ called “baseq3″ (without the quotes)
  • Copy pak0.pk3 of your copy of Quake 3 to the quake3/baseq3 directory
    • If you’re looking to buy Quake 3, you can purchase fromĀ Steam (19.99 with Team Arena) and download it instantly.
  • Download the Quake3 1.32 update (link) and copy pak1-pak8.pk3 to quake3/baseq3

Start the game :)

Controls:

  • Movement: a/s/w/d, up/down arrows
  • Look: touch screen, trackball and left/right arrows
  • Shooting: Alt / D-pad center / tap on screen / trackball
  • Tilde (quake3 console): search button
  • Escape: back button
