Quick Tip: Getting .edu Backlinks
We all know the importance of getting .edu backlinks, sometimes that’s easier said than done. Here are two quick ways to get some .edu backlinks completely ethically.
Looking for Link Directories
Some sites allow visitors and students to post links to websites under a variety of topics. They can be educational related or just links that you find interesting. The hard part use to be finding these link directories, but not any more thanks to the power monster Google.com
Try doing a search on Google for: “add link” site:.edu (or click here) and you should be able to find a number of link directories. Be careful not to spam, as you could get your IP Address banned.
Backlinks from Blogs
This one can go either way. As long as you follow through as I outline, I see nothing wrong with this ethically. However there is a fine line between what I’m going to show you and spam, so be careful.
First, we need to seek out blogs, hosted on .edu domains, that allow the posting of comments. Likewise with the above example, this use to be hard, but thanks to Google this chore has become a lot easier.
First, you’ll want to do a search on Google: “post comment” OR “post a comment” site:.edu (or click here)
Once you do this, you’ll need to try to find a blog on a subject that you can answer. There is a surprising amount of what I call pop-trivia posts you can find all over the .edu’s as someone always has a comment on what Brittney Spears is doing.
After you have found a post relating to a subject you believe you can respond to, scroll down to the bottom of the page to their comment area. Usually you’ll have a place for three fields: Name, Email, Website. Myself, I just focus on the Name and Website fields and leave the email address blank (or use a fake one through dodgeit.com). Fill in your name and your website URL, then post an actual response to the original blog article in the comments area.
The reason we are posting an actual quality comment is if you just post your name and website email address your comment will be deleted or not approved as the site owner will probably consider this spam. In addition, you’re also giving back to the author at the same time you are giving yourself a powerful backlink.
